Isla Mujeres

Today we took a day trip to Isla Mujeres. It was about 45 minutes away on boat. We rented a golf cart and explored the island, which had a sea turtle farm, Pepe the friendly shark, and some Mayan Ruins. Here are some pictures from the day:

Green with...

sea sickness...

We woke up early to go deep sea fishing this morning. Our private van came to pick us up at our resort and we drove about 30 minutes through Cancun to the Marina. We had ordered a couple of tuna fish sandwiches the night before so we could snack while we were out on the boat this morning. We had a private boat, and it was just us, the captain, and two deck hands. We got on our boat and headed to the top to sit with the captain on the way out. The seas were pretty rough... the waves were about 4 foot on our way out, but Jonathan and I were having fun. We rode out for about an hour our so, and the water was beautiful! It was about 460 feet deep, and it was a pretty deep blue color. Jonathan saw a big sea turtle! I was definitely sitting on the wrong side, because I did not see anything, and I was getting soaked.

When we got to our destination, the waves really started to pick up. We were trolling really slow with the lines out waiting for a fish to bite. Jonathan and I were sitting down on a little bench on the back of the boat. The waves starting getting really big, and we were really rocking! One wave hit us so hard, the whole top of the bench (with both of us on it)flew off! Eek, it was not fun. I was scared to death!

At that point, the waves were getting even worse, and we decided just to turn around and go back. It was miserable! Thankfully, neither of us threw up. The boat dropped us back off at our resort, so we got to pass Isla Mujeres. Jonathan and I were feeling a lot better, and we were able to enjoy the gorgeous aqua water.

When we got back to our room, we took a 2 hour nap, and woke up feeling much better. We are already laughing about it.

We ate lunch at The Grill which overlooked the ocean and the pools. Tonight we are eating at Spice, a hibachi/pan-Asian restaurant. The food here is really yummy...

For the past few days we have hung around the resort and walked on the beach. We had breakfast delivered to our room again yesterday and we enjoyed the sun all day!

Last night we had an amazing date at the French restaurant, Chez Isabelle.

Finally getting some R & R

Today, Jonathan woke us up at 6:30 so we were able to walk around the resort. It is so beautiful...there are gardens everywhere (even on the roof tops)

The beach is private and the wait staff is everywhere in case you need anything. Today we ordered breakfast in our room because nothing was open yet. Jonathan had bagels and lox and I ordered "toast french" and fresh fruit. We also booked a couples massage after lunch (I wish it was with Melissa though!!!) Today we are just going to relax around the resort, but tomorrow, we are going deep sea fishing!!

They are picking us up from the resort at 6:00am and it is about a 10-20 min ride in a private shuttle. We booked it through Aquaworld, and they make sure to tell us who to look for, what they will be driving, etc so no one tries to steal us. We are going out for 4 hours and we will be about 15 miles off shore. This is a great time to go fishing, and she said that we should definitely catch some marlin or sailfish. If we catch any grouper or tuna or anything, we can have it filleted and cooked at one of the restaurants here.

Here are a few more pictures. We are about to lay out on our private deck beside our hydrotherapy pool :)

We are here!!!

The flight from Miami to Cancun was about 2 1/2 hours behind, and when we got to the Cancun airport, it was ridiculous. The customs and security and health screening took forever. We ended up cutting in line because we could not wait behind the hundreds of people. It was so unorganized!

We then found our private van that took us straight to the resort. We rode through downtown Cancun, and it was a little scary. Everyone driving was LOCO! We were really surprised at how underdeveloped it was. We did see a Wal-Mart Suprema and a 7-11 though!

When we finally got to our resort, the long day became totally worth it! It is absolutely amazing!!! We just ate at Agave (the Mexican restaurant here). I had the grilled grouper with a garlic sauce and Jonathan had some sort of stuffed lobster. We were so full, we decided we would go back for dessert later.

Here are a few pics of the day so far... more to come!

We're almost there...

We are delayed in MIA right now... As of now we are about an hour and a half behind schedule. They are trying to fix a mechanical problem on the plane and they keep pushing back the time. The flight from Orlando was smooth and short though. We got to the airport around 6:30 and we had plenty of time to check in and eat breakfast. We were definitely the most excited people on the plane! Flying over Miami was much different than any other part of Florida. We flied along the coast the whole time and it was beautiful. The Miami airport is much bigger and nicer than Orlando's, so at least we are stuck here! Wish us luck on the flight to cancun. Hopefully we don't crash on our ghetto plane.
